Which size do you need?

Count the pickup-truck loads you would haul to the dump yourself, then match them to a size. A 15 yard holds about 4 to 5 loads, a 20 yard 6 to 8, a 30 yard 9 to 12 and a 40 yard 12 to 16.

Garage, basement and attic cleanouts usually fit a 15 yard. Kitchen and bathroom remodels, flooring and roofs up to 40 squares fit a 20 yard, the size most homeowners pick. Whole-house cleanouts, major renovations and new construction move up to a 30 or 40 yard.

What can go in

What cannot go in

Weight allowance

Every size includes a weight allowance: 3 tons for a 15 yard, 4 tons for a 20 yard, 5 tons for a 30 yard and 6 tons for a 40 yard. Anything over the allowance is billed by the ton.

Heavy material such as concrete, dirt, brick and roofing shingles reaches the weight limit long before it fills the box. For those jobs, pick a size by weight, not by volume, and keep the load level with the top edge so the truck can haul it safely.

Placement and permits

The 15 yard is 16 feet long and the other sizes are 22 feet long, all about 7.5 to 8 feet wide. The 15 and 20 yard fit most driveways. The 30 and 40 yard need a roomy driveway or a job site. Leave room for the truck to back in, and clear cars, low branches and wires from the spot.

A dumpster in your driveway or on your own property does not need a permit. If it has to sit on a public street, tell us when you book, because street placement in Nashville may need a permit from Metro Public Works.

Delivery and pickup

We deliver and pick up Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5. Book a few days ahead for weekends and busy spring months. Prices are per rental and may not include delivery, so we confirm the total for your address on the call. When you are done, call and we haul it away.
